1,3,5-Triglycidyl Isocyanurate (TGIC) – CAS 2451-62-9
Brief Description
TGIC is a trifunctional epoxy crosslinking agent, supplied as a white crystalline powder. It is the industry‑standard hardener for durable polyester powder coatings, offering outstanding weather resistance, UV stability, and thermal performance. Also used in electrical insulation, PCB inks, adhesives, and flame‑retardant systems.
Key Properties
Molecular formula: C₁₂H₁₅N₃O₆ | MW: 297.26
Melting point: 95–98 °C
Epoxy equivalent: ≤110 g/mol
Purity: ≥95% (coating grade); ≥98% (research grade)
Bulk density: ~0.8 g/cm³; density: 1.42 g/cm³
Water solubility: ~9 g/L at 25 °C
Shelf life: 365 days in cool, dry storage
Primary Applications
Powder coatings – crosslinker for carboxyl‑terminated polyesters (dosage 6–10% of resin), used on automotive parts, outdoor furniture, fences, appliances.
Electronics – insulating laminates, PCB solder‑resist inks, semiconductor encapsulants.
Adhesives & plastics – curing agent, stabilizer, chain extender.
Low‑temperature cure (135 °C) enables use on heat‑sensitive substrates (MDF, thermoplastics).
