Applications
The vast majority of caprolactam is used to produce polycaprolactam; approximately 90% of the latter is used to manufacture synthetic fibers (specifically Capron),
while 10% is used for plastics—such as gears, bearings, piping, medical devices, and electrical or insulating materials. It is also used in coatings and plasticizers, and to a lesser extent, in the synthesis of lysine.
