Production method

●  Put a quartz disc containing 5.57g of metal gallium (0.06mol) into a quartz combustion tube, and connect a hydrogen sulfide gas inlet pipe equipped with a paraffin flowmeter. The gas inlet pipe must have a length that allows hydrogen sulfide to pass directly to the gallium. The combustion tube is placed in the furnace, and the furnace temperature is slowly raised to 950°C under the condition of introducing hydrogen sulfide, and the reaction is continued for 2 hours. Then hydrogen sulfide was introduced, and the furnace was allowed to cool to room temperature. At this time, the product is yellow due to the entrainment of gallium sulfide. The mixture can be ground into fine powder with an agate mortar and sent back to the combustion tube to continue to react with hydrogen sulfide for 3 hours according to the above operation. The product was cooled while continuing to pass hydrogen sulfide, and was taken out after reaching room temperature. Pure gallium trisulfide is white. If it is still yellow, the above operation should be repeated.
The above operations must be carried out in a fume hood. The yield is almost quantitative.
